Meet Wally and Molly.

Thanks to the kind help of some folks on these forums, we are now the proud carers for two young Axies. Wally and Molly arrived home a couple of days ago, and are now lording it over the tank in the corner of our lounge.

Wally has spent his time (between bouts of eating), trying to persuade both Molly and us that he is, in fact, a plant. Not an Axolotl at all. A plant. Whatever Wally.

Molly rightly thinks this behaviour is beneath her, and has taken advantage of the arrangements to claim dominance over the dark cave of rocks.

We hope you like the pics of Wally and Molly, and look forward to updating anyone who's interested on their development.

Thanks again to all those on the forums who have (knowingly or anonymously) provided us with tips and useful advice.

My Babies are now your babies...

I think you will make great parents to Wally and Molly, I do like the golden axies on black sand!!! Nice set up!

What kind of sand is that cause i like it? By the way Molly and Wally are really good looking. and if Wally wants to be a tree i think you should let him lol :D

Awwww, pretty babies. How old are they? Where did you get them from?

Thanks on Wally & Molly's behalf. The sand came from the aquarium, and was sold in a sealed plastic bag, branded by the same company who produce the aquarium gravel and other substrate. I forget the name, but will be visiting the store again tomorrow, so I'll have a look and try to get you more information.

Wally is still hanging out with the foliage. I don't think we could stop him if we tried.

We bought them from a fellow user of these forums (in fact, one who appears in this thread, if you have eagle eyes). She was fantastic and very helpful, and made us feel way more confident about setting out as new axie keepers.

She hatched these from eggs, and I believe they're about 6 months old now.

I like that sand too. Wally and Molly are very cute babies. I bet they love you a lot

i think you got them from victoria, am i right? how are Wally and Molly doing? they are such gorgeous babies!!!! what do you feed them?

Now I'm wondering if my golden one is related to yours..similar age and from the City ( 2nd hand mind!)

About Wally and Molly!

Hello, Im glad to hear everyone likes your babies, they were certainly raised with lots of love!
Actually Julie they are not 6months old infact most of my eggs had hatched by the 26th of Feb 07 so you can say that your axies are just over 3months old!
Was the name of the sand you have used called AquaGravel?
Thought I'd share a picture of the babies when most had hatched! Iv circled them so its easier to spot them!

Hello, Im glad to hear everyone likes your babies, they were certainly raised with lots of love!

That was evident throughout our dealings with you Vicky, and needless to say it's hugely reassuring to be buying from someone who obviously cares deeply for the welfare of the creatures. The contrast with the pet stores is marked.

As for everyone who solved the mystery in the thread, give yourselves an extra bloodworm for dinner tonight !!!

Wally and Molly are doing fine, and coping well with the shame and heartache of our inadvertent faux-pas of stating an incorrect age for them in the forums here. They are, as Vicky would know, just 3 months-odd old, not 6 months old. They weren't speaking to us for much of the day, but have come round now and forgiven our simple human stupidity.

The physical similarities between them have faded into insignificance as far as telling these two apart is concerned. They have such amazingly different personalities, you only have to watch them for a few minutes and it becomes clear who is who. Wally is (apt naming by us) a complete dufus, and spends much of his day bumping into things and trying to emulate the leaves on the plants. Molly is very down to earth, patrols her tank, and gets things done with a purpose.

We took some more pics today, some of which came out really well so when they're uploaded to the pc, we will post more. Meantime, thanks to everyone on W&M's behalf for the fine compliments and an axie-smile to Vicky once again.

[ETA] Re: the sand, we didn't make it to the aquatic centre today, but will try to tomorrow, and will definitely confirm the name of the sand and the company who make it.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
