Heres some more photos of Hendrix light coloured wild type and Ollie dark coloured wild type. this is moments after they discovered the joy of live earthworms.

The first shot of ollie is using a neon torch light (2000 lumin) it brings out the green and yellow alot more, and the other 2 are with the camera flash they are a more accurate representation of his true colouration.

Hendrix is proudly showing off his sixth toe on his left front foot the right front foot has only four.

Oh and no they are not live fish in the back of ollies tank they are on the backdrop supplied with the tank.

I have removed all the gravel from both tanks now.

Very nice axolotls you have. Nice pictures

Amazing colours!Wow! Totally gorgeous. How would you classify their colours/types?

Hi Sherri.

I have been told that the adult is a light colured wild type and the juvenile is a dark coloured wild type.

Other than that I call it rainbow and green/yellow.

Thanks

Ian

Hello, i am thinking of taking the gravel out of my tank as my axie seems to be eating it, i have seen your tank with no gravel on the floor, how does your axie walk around? I mean is he able to walk without getting too stressed as there is nothing to grab onto?

Hi Diannpf.

I had similar worries with gravel but no substrate hasn't caused any problem in fact it has made cleaning easy and Hendrix has no trouble or stress moving around on the bare glass.

The only reason I would put sand in now is for the look.

I would save yourself the is my axie eating gravel stress and remove the gravel.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Gordy, I think....

Erm..a porno setup?...rrrright...

Great set up.

Axies dont mind bare tank floors.

Ian

Hendrix is a leucistic...he/she just has alot of pigmentation.
I would consider Ollie to be a light wild type

Wicked Thanks Naymo Leucistic sounds way cooler the light coloured wild type and dark coloured wild type

wow the one that looks almost green is such a beautiful colour!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
