these look great. i'm thinking about getting a second axie soon.

also, I think your gravel might be too small. they can swallow it, get sick, die sometimes. I'm sure if you ask a more knowledgeable member here they can tell you for certain.

Very much a beginner, but I think it's too small. My axie pooed out gravel bigger than that that he'd been on at the petshop the day I brought him home.

gravel concerns

hey gang!
the first and second lot of pics are from when they were in their holding tank, we were cycling and setting up a new tank for them, which they are in now. We've used the sand/silicone substrate featured on this site - very cool. looks great and easy to clean. i'd recommend it to anyone!!!

I think the red light is to make them look more evil, by the way, great axolotl names! We need more evil axies arround these parts, most are "cutesies"

evil axies

yeah, evil axies are cool!! their full names are lucifer 'meataxe' mojojojo and lilith 'betty' buttercup. one's mine and the other's my girlies. the red light is just a small rechargeable ikea lamp, the red light is less harsh on the eyes, i just took darkroom philosophy and applied it to the axies. it's not on all the time, just when we want to watch them in the dark. they really love the red light too, they swim over to it and hang there in front of it, so can't be all bad!!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
