Only a mother could love...but thought I'd show them off! I hope this has worked, I keep getting thumbnails rather than full pics....

Before you all go "Ahah! Get rid of that substrate!" - it is well and truly gone now and has been replaced with stones bigger than the axies heads

This is my cheeky little Mara

This is my sweet gutsy Eowyn

These are my more aloof axies, the venerable ones, Vader and Leia

There is actually two tanks.

One tank is 150 Litre (three foot long) Vader and Leia's home.
The other is a 120 Litre (two and a half foot long) shared by Eowyn and Mara.

Both have the same design - after sweating and labouring on the big tank set up, I was so knackered and when I saw I had another tank to do - rather than crying - I took the lazy path and just made the smaller one the same design.

Mara is a cutie, your axies are lookin gooood!

Great looking axies Havelock, I really like the brown one (second photo, can't remember name :D). Out of interest, have you seen leucistic axies in Australia?

Hi Jacq,

I was just looking over your photos and I must admit they're a funky looking bunch :p

But one thing struck me as odd when I looked at Mara, she has this odd lump right above her arm (the arm that isn't pressed up against the glass). Has this always been there? Or perhaps it's just me seeing things...

Jay.

Hi Lisa,

I have, but not recently. The one I saw was four or so years ago - I was more into the dark melanoids at the time so didn't buy it.

You can imagine my delight when I encountered and purchased my Vader instead - HE WAS PURE BLACK - I grabbed the net off the shop assistant - no way was I going to let any clumsy oaf touch my black axolotl!.

Hi Jay,

Well spotted! You're not seeing things. ...[the frantic sound of Jacq running to the tank, cursing as she trips over the dog who is wondering what the fuss is about, footsteps resume normal pace and Jacq returns]...

Well I've just checked her and it's not there now...I don't know what that lump was.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
