Is my Puckles a gold albino ? He's becoming more and more yellow coloured. I originally thought he'd be white.

I could be wrong as I am newish to axolotls but I thought golden albinos had orange/yellow eyes and not black eyes? I could be wrong and i'm sure someone will correct me if i am. I have two that are golden in colour with orange/yellow eyes. One of them was very pale (white) when we first got them, however, they are now both a golden colour. Their eyes have always been an orange/yellow and are very reflective and i've always assumed that they are golden albino's.

I've attached some pictures of my axolotls so you can see the difference in eye colour and body. If someone would be able to tell me if i'm right or wrong in what I think i'd be very greatful. Cheers

Hope that helps

Ah ha - I feel so silly for not picking up on that straight off. Puckles does have black eyes so he can't be an albino. (I'm blonde, after all)

Umm... Sorry don't think that's an albino at all. It has black eyes, where as all albinos have red eyes. You can see it in Rabbits, Kangaroos etc.

Hi Dangergirl,

I think Puckles is a yellow leucistic - I've never seen one of those before - thanks for the treat!

Cheers Jacq.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
