Here is a pic of my main axie tank (3ft x 2ft). Irritatingly, neither of the inhabitants showed their faces during the photo shoot. There are 2 wild types (Fegg Hayes and Fenton) in there, honest! I've got an external filter, floating live pond weed (not shown), live bamboo in pots, and one slab of slate for variation. The bright green thing is a hamster hide (v cheap), and the main house is a pond weed basket. There is no specific light, though the tank receives indirect light through a window a room away, and there is a normal light bulb in the vicinity for viewing. Any suggestions for improving the interior design gratefully received (but I shan't be doing sand).

That looks so neat! Love the perspective on the photo, too. Looks like a huge, clean axolotl playground - great job!

Looks great!

Don't worry - we believe you when you say there are axies in there...truly :D

Nice tank! I'm liking the layout very much. I'm glad to see someone is trying putting lucky bamboo in an aquatic tank. I've been wondering about the lucky bamboo being fully submersible or not. There is some debate on the topic but the general feeling I get from people is that as they are bog plants they will just rot if they are fully submerged in an aquarium. But I dont really want to believe that because I think they are really neat looking in an aquarium :p

Can I ask you how long have you had the lucky bamboo in there for and whether or not they are thriving in an underwater environment?

Thanks for the responses. The bamboo has been in there six months. One pot is totally submerged, the other partially, but I swap them round periodically. The axolotls like draping themselves in it.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
