Here are some photos of one of my axies - Neptune.

He is 25cm in length, and is the proud daddy of about 200 babies that are nearing 10 days old, some of which are about 30mm in length with developing front legs. Mummy (titan) is a wild type.

Hopefully will get some survivors from this hatching, and anybody willing to collect from South East London, please pm me........

Karrie,

the axies were named by my wife, who bought them from a pet shop about 16 months ago as babies.

Names: Neptune, Titan and Sportacus.....named before we knew their sexes !!!

Titan and Sportacus turned out to be female....and we had to move Sportacus to her own tank, because she was constantly losing her limbs, due to attacks from the other two (she was a little smaller than them)

Sportacus has grown back all her limbs....but is still not as large as the other two.....and all three have been on a diet of chicken breast and occasionally prawns for about six months (hand fed) ......and have thrived, with the added bonus that the tank does not get dirty, as was the case when on a diet of bloodworms etc.

Maybe the diet has encouraged Titan to spawn (three times since just before Christmas - in the region of 500 eggs at a time). The previous two spawnings were not successful due to my lack of knowledge, but things seem to be going OK with this last brood (fingers crossed)

Wow great pictures of a beautiful axolotl! Very pretty gills and the tank is masterfully decorated as well. Good job.

I'm not sure chicken breast and prawns are good staple diets for axies, but it seems to work for you so far :p Many good axolotl care sources will recommend something along the lines of earthworms if you don't like the mess caused by bloodworms.

Thanks for sharing!

30mm in 10 days!! What do you feed them? mine were only 15mm at 2 weeks, and they were eating constantly!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
