I have recently purchased this newt and was told that it is a Warty Newt. Can anyone verify this & supply a more precise i.d.? Also, can anyone i.d. the gender?

I bit of a wild guess, but i think it´s Paramesotriton chinensis. It´s definitely a Paramesotriton, but the species is sometimes hard to tell.
I´d say it´s a female...

Thanks - what are the general guidelines for sexing Paramesotritons?

For me suggest a Paramesotriton chinensis.

It's Paramesotriton chinensis for sure. I have a group of 6 and also it's one of the only Parmesotrtion's to have small gold/yellow spots on legs, belly and sides of animal.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
