This is Floyd. I am a preschool teacher for a 4's and 5's class in Portland Oregon. I decided to get an axolotl as a classroom pet this year because of it's unique-ness and the fact that I've always been extremely interested in amphibians and reptiles. The children love Floyd and go over to say "good morning" to him when they come in the classroom. One of the children even commented that it was like having a "pet dinosaur"...and I guess it kind of is!

I'm slowly getting rid of the rocks as they seem to be a bit too small for him (I think he might have gobbled one up already.)

Just thought I would show him off!

I wish we had Axolotls when I was at school - I'm sure I would have been mesmerised.

Yes, I think you'd do best to remove the small rocks, and get some bigger ones!

That's great! I am also an axolotl owner in Oregon and the reason I became interested in them was because my high school biology teacher had one in her classroom. Hopefully your interest in amphibians will encourage your students to learn more about them and preserving our own ecological areas and native species. Congratulations! Your axolotl is lovely.
 
My students (who are 4 and 5) are extremely interested in him. Today, they had a great time watching me swap out the rocks for some nice aquarium sand. I reorganized the tank, I'll post pics soon.
