Today I set up Sunnys new tank and although hes hiding at the moment, I know he'll get a little more adventurous and start exploring his massive tank =] I know it's boring, but I'm starting bare and will soon have more hides etc. For the moment hes got his tile and I cover him with towels.

Tank looks a great size for sunny!

The sand looks a little deep? I'm not sure, it may be just the way it looks on the photo, it should be no more than about an inch in depth (about 2-3cm).

What's the plastic bottle for?

Can't wait to see the development of Sunny's new home.

Off to a great start, Blaze! ;)

I share Kerry's concern about the sand depth. If the sand is deeper than an inch, you run the risk of gas pockets developing underneath. These gas pockets can wreak havoc with water quality if disturbed (not to mention the dreadful smell of rotten eggs which can spread quickly through not only the axolotl's water, but also your house).

What is Dart?

Thanks guys. Will try and fish that sand out when it settles a little more =]
Ahh the plastic bottle was the one that had just defrosted to keep my little guy cool!

hehe Darts my little fighting fish. I currently have three of them.

I am happy to report that Sunny is currently loving his new tank and his appetite has come back =]
I will be removing some of the sand shortly and on friday hes getting his new ornament!
The tank is still cloudy as can be but I think with water changes and time it'll settle. So glad I chose a tank this big for my cute little one.

Yay, Sunny!

You know how greedy we are. We'll expect more pictures! ;)

hehehe

Hes more active, always up for a snap at anything, walks around a lot, ALWAYS comes over tot he side of the tank when he sees me. The tank isn't cloudy anymore and I took half the sand out =]

Before I get the ornament, heres a good one I took of Sunny tonight to keep you all amused. His left eye buldges more, his left foot has long fingers while the right has short webbed. His gills are all weird form being nibbling sometime when he was young.

It's not the best picture but it shows his grin that he does all the time =]

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
