Congratulations! Please keep us posted. Can you post pictures of the set up and details about the environment when you have time?

That is fantastic news!! I am extremely happy for you and the species! Keep us update with as much as you can. Thanks for sharing!

Mitch

Congrats, Chip. I expect you to be flooding the world with your kweichow babies in no time at all!

Absolutely stellar. I can't wait for some photos. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing!

Will you please post the pictures soon.
I would like to see your set up, where the eggs are layd, where and how you keep the eggs.
I hope I breed with kweichowensis to in the spring.

I apologize for the delay in getting back to this thread, I have been very busy lately. The animals are kept in a 65 gallon aquarium (36 x 18 x 22 inches). The enclosure design is terrestrial with dead leaves and cork bark sections for hiding. There is also a plant rooted directly in the substrate. I have a 5 gallon container sunk flush with the soil that I use for the aquatic section. I use a sponge filter in addition to weekly partials to keep the water clean. So far I have only found about 25 eggs. Some have been moved to a separate rearing container however the others seem fixed in place so I have left them. All seem viable at this point. I have a friend over documenting everything with his camera (I have little interest in digital photography) so I plan on posting pics when the larvae hopefully start to hatch.

Chop: Congrats. Impressive. I'd be very interested in seeing your enclosure. I have my two in a 35 gallon tank with water access...but they seem largely terrestrial so far.I'd really like to try a largely aquatic set up to see how they would fare. But they are so healthy, I'm hesitant to change them. Plus my two fat females have no males to attend to. They just eat, sleep and look for more food! They need a boyfriend or two.

Is there any news about your kweichowensis freves?
What did you do to get them in so far that you have eggs?

Many of the eggs were not viable. I have not made an exact count but there are around 25 larvae. Some are growing faster than others but they all seem to be doing well. I have them in a "pond" tank that I setup about a year ago. It has a gravel substrate, dead leaves, water sprite, java moss, and muck from a local stream. A sponge filter is provided along with partial water changes three times a week. I have been feeding them newly hatched brine shrimp, both live and frozen, as well as Sera brand fry food. I mostly just supplement their diet at this stage however because I continue to see various minute organisms swimming around. A friend has been making weekly photos first of the eggs and now of the larvae. I think that he has taken a few of the adult enclosure as well. I believe that he has some of them on his facebook album but I will see if he will post some here.

This is my kweichowensis set up, humidity is 100 % and I am now rising the water level.
I hope I get some eggs to.

I love kweichows - such outgoing personalities - and voracious eaters! Any updates on the progress of your larvae, Chip?

Thats awesome yours are breeding! Any updates? A picture of the adults set up would be amazing!

Is the water area 5 gallons wide? I have a pair of Tylototriton kweichowensis and I'm unsure on how deep the water area should be to encourage breeding.

There was a total of 19 metamorphs. The last few left the water last week. I can no longer use the excuse that I do not have a camera or the know how to post pics but now time is what I am in short supply of. I need to take some gecko pics later this week for a classified ad so I will try and get some of the kweichow enclosure then. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by 5 gallons wide? It is a 5 gal sterilite container sunk flush with the substrate. In my experience T. kweichowensis require large enclosures relative to their size. They are mostly terrestrial however do require room to go swimming.

Hey Freves,
When are you going to post the picks of your babies?? We are all dieing to see, and I would like to see your set up.
What temp, humidity do you keep your Kweichowensis at?
Thanks hope to hear more!

Olivier

I am sorry but I lead a very busy life and have not had time to take any additional pics yet. My kweichows are in a room that generally fluctuates between 65 - 72 F. I have never actually measured the humidity but the setup is described already in this thread. Oam253, that is great news about your kweichows breeding. How many eggs do you have?
