Can anyone recommend a good rack or two for keeping tanks on them. Some of the tanks will be fully aquatic, while others terrestrial. My current rack has like 5-6 tanks on it and it bowing. So I need something strong with good room so I can load them up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use the metal shelving racks you can buy at Lowes, Home Deopt, or any Wal-Mart. They come in various sizes and then you can still customize them to your height requirements. They supposedly can handle 350 pounds (I think or at least somewhere near that number). I eventually added vertical support bars to mine just to be safe.

This picture shows the shelving before I added the supports.

Looks good. I could use one of those racks for my smaller tanks. The larger tanks I may need something beefier.

Greatwtehunter what did you use to support the rack?

I have aluminium racks, they are expensive, but I will not take any risks of overloading

Greatwtehunter what did you use to support the rack?

Treated 2x2's cut to fit for each individual row and 2 per row. I notched the ends of each support bar so that it fits in the rails of the shelves to prevent them from poping out. I jumped up and down on one of the racks after I put these in to test it and it never even budged but do take into consideration that I only weigh a third of the reccomended maximum weight, so take it for what it's worth.

I sure hope that makes sense.

Justin do you have a pic of how you supported it? I was thinking maybe taking a screw and putting through the plastic bracket?

Not yet, my camera is broken. Figures it would break right before I head to Tennessee (salamander capital of the world!). Anyways, the bars are arranged vertically in the middle of the shelf. One on the front and then one on the back per shelf. This position prevents the racks from sagging in the middle. Oh heck, I will find someway to get a picture as trying to explain it is just confusing me.

I suppose I've been lucky that all my large tanks came with the old wrought iron stands, the ones you can put a second tank about the same size on the bottom. They seem to hold up to anything I've put them through weight-wise. And I enjoy viewing my Ambystomids on near ground level. This way I can curl up with my body pillow on the floor with a cup of coffee and watch for signs of life. (Spotted sals are such hermits!) But those racks look like a good solution for my abundance of shelfless 10 gallons! Thanks.
