WOW! Found the elusive Batrachoseps attentuatus on my day in the field. My kids were excited and learned about nature and conservation. We left all these specimen how we found them. Here are the pictures. Can you help me identify the little orangish, brownish, yellowish ones?

They're definitely some species of Ensatina- maybe Ensatina eschscholtzii picta?

Sounds like a fun trip- thanks for sharing!

Nice specimens!

I second Nathan on the E. e. picta.

My thoughts were also the E.e.p., but I was not sure.

My team(my 7 year old, 4 year old, and 3 year old) did a great job and learned a lot. My oldest was awesome. She found things I missed. She will make a good field researcher someday.

Luckliy we didn't have to hike very far to find all these specimen. In total we found three of the E. e. p.'s, and FIVE B. attenuatus(which was amazing since they are in decline).

"FIVE B. attenuatus(which was amazing since they are in decline)."

Since when?

I read on a website that they were on a special species list or something, but I can't find it now. I must have been mistaken. Perhaps it was another species I was looking for that was endagered. Anyways....sorry for the mistake.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
