I want to send out a huge thank you to Shoegal who sent me two absolutely beautiful axolotls last week. They've been set up in their new home for about a week now and they seem to be settling in really well.

It was an interesting experience getting them over the Canadian-US border (we don't have any A. mexicanum breeders in B.C apparently) but it seems that if you familiarize yourself with the regulations and bring a print-out of the relevant information to show the border guards, it really isn't a problem.

Here's a couple of pictures from their first couple of days (sorry for the quality). I will get more up soon!

Re: The day has finaly come!

Wow, I didn't think you could get them across the border like that, cool! They look great. Thanks for posting! :D

awwwww they are beautiful :) love them lots. you will have so much fun with them.

Re: The day has finaly come!

Thank you!

It definitely can be done but I don't think many border guards really know all of the regulations about that so it's worth it to do the research before-hand and come prepared.

Re: The day has finaly come!

I forgot to mention their names! The golden one is Ferdinand and the white albino is Squid Vicious!

They look great! I love how they are related but have such different coloring. I think you are really going to enjoy them!

Take care...

I already am! They're really delightful little animals. Thanks so much!

Did you have a lot of problems with the CITES papers?

In regards to import or export?

Both. Exporting and Importing CITES II listed animals require more paperwork than non CITES animals.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
