My young Triturus marmoratus just became fully aquatic. While preparing his first aquatic set up I had this idea for an island which wouldn't take up any space under water. I had a nice piece of cork bark but didn't want it to float freely. I wanted to attach it to the tank with suction cups...and here's how it did (not) work:
I made holes in the bark, put silicone into them and inserted the suction cups.
It seemed to be working pretty well but then they came out...leaving the silicone in the bark. It didn't stick to the suction cups at all but they fit nicely into the silicone-lined holes. The island stays in place and can be easily removed. It works pretty well in the end (hopefully long-term  ).
