I was in northeastern Ontario over the weekend and managed to get in some herping.

It has been a hot and dry summer in the north this year and I was not optimistic about finding any salamanders. After about an hour of turning over rocks and fallen logs in the forest, I was going to call it a day when I turned over a pack of moss to find an adult Blue-Spotted Salamander curled up underneath. I then turned over an adjacent clump of moss and found a second! Both were large, plump and healthy looking, although the second specimen was in the process of regrowing his tail.

The following day I headed out to a nearby lake and was pleased to find several young leopard frogs and morphing tadpoles.

Pics are attached!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
