Hey,

Bit of an update of things.

Rearranged the tank, installed a chiller.

The first pic is a 'before' pic from a few months back - I hadn't noticed how much our axie had grown!

Any tips welcome.

Looks cool, chiller is almost as big as the tank :)

How you finding it controlling temp, and what about the noise?

Of course I'm gonna have to say the inevitable....

Some of those stones are too small, they are less than the size of his head and could be swallowed and kill him / cause issues.

I'd highly recommend getting rid of a few of the smaller stones, possibly all of those, they aren't suitable.

ha yeah the chiller is pretty big - and its the smallest model! The bigger ones must be pretty large.

But it does a good job. I've got it set on 18C so it will cool the water to 18 or 17.9C then turn itself off. The water will warm to 19C before it switches on again. I've got another thermometer which shows the same temp as what the chiller does and they're always pretty much the same.

Noise wise it isn't quiet. Putting it in the cabinet made a massive difference so its definitely bearable. We just sometimes witch it off while where watching a movie at night so we don't have to turn up the TV too much.

As far as pebbles - I'll leave them in except for the odd small one. They're all sizeable (as big or bigger than head). They are half buried in the sand so prob look a little small. Henry has never shown interest in them nor could get his mouth around them or even move them so it should all be good. Thanks anyway.

OK cool, well if it's bearable enough in the living room then that's a good thing. I would be inclined to switch off for TV I'm sure, I certainly do with my fans.

How long does it take to go from 19 back down to 18 out of interest?

As for the pebbles, well I tried, I hope I don;t have to say I told you so at some point. I'll leave that down to your digression but don;t be surprised if others show concern.

Hope you take that negatively, just genuine interest in the care for your Axolotl. You've done so much to make sure he's got a great environment, just seems a shame to leave such a hazard in place.

I'd say it takes around 5mins to get from 19 to 18. Then because the ambient temp is only low 20's it'll take another half hour before it hits 19 again. I'll have to do some more accurate timing though.

Keen to see how it runs in summer - temps around 30+
