Hi newbie with four gilled axolotl :-s

thought i join this for care info and just out of general interest and noticed that my new axo has four gills ! any one ever heard of this ? im thinking its a freakish re growth after buying it from a tank it was kept in with goldfish !

Welcome! It's a lovely axolotl. I never stopped to count how many gills are normal. You should post your photos on the axolotl area of the forum and you'll get more views from people who know.
 
Awh thanks ! posted in the wrong place twice now but its now in the axo free for all section hopefully someone will pick it up !:happy:
 
I think 3 per side is normal, but having a 4th is probably an advantage when it comes to absorbing oxygen. Either way, it's a cutie.
