Okay all,
I'm going from a 3ft to a 4ft set up and thought I'd share some pics..

Got the tank today, second hand for only $50! It's a 4ft x 1.5ft footprint, with a shallow 1ft height.

Gave it a clean up with plain warm water (no idea where the bubbles came from in the pic?).

And now it's all shiny and new! Should get my stand by tomorrow and commence the varnish-ing :) Yay!

On the horizon is also a hood, some black & white sand, and some live plants! Not to mention the axie eggs from yellowpebble.. WOOOOOOO!!!!!

Pics are of my shiny new tank, and all the filth in the water from when I finished cleaning.. :)

Have you tested it for any leaks yet?

Not trying to put the mozz on you, but better to know know if there is a leak and fix it before you have the new livestock ready to go

Clark rubber in High st belmont will cut you a bit of black foam to exact size for a base too (i personally think a nice black foam is nicer to look at than white foam, if you can see it of course)

No not yet Bren. When I got it, it was quite dirty. Looked like her fish hadn't been out of it very long so I'm fairly confident. I'll be filling it tomozz after I pick up my foam. Thanks for the clark rubber suggestion btw! I was gonna get some at the pet store but they charge like $16 bucks.. Is it cheaper there?

If it does leak, my housemates set up (my old one, currently with my axies in it) is all set up so no hassles with the livestock.. :) And I've got some tank-safe sealant also so I'll be able to tackle it fairly easily.

1. My freshly varnished tank stand! Took forever and due to the lack of turpentine at my place ending up causing half an hour of scrubbing my handsafter I was done.. I finally surrendered and went down to Bunnings to get Turps. It's insane how NOTHING else will get 'stain & varnish' off! It will be worth it though.. looks great!

2. 'Red' chilling in my housemates room.. wondering what happened lol..

looking fantastic. that's a perfect tank for axies, more floor space than depth.

I await the finished product!
 
Pic of my stand, filter and tank all ready to go. Still waiting for my sand to come in at the pet store, and I'll be picking up my hood when it comes in.. hopefully friday! Can't wait!

I'm hesitant to fill in before I get everything so for now my axies are thoroughly enjoying their vacation. They littered the tank with spermatophores last night. I counted 10 lol. Pitch did that last time too when I moved him (think he's claiming his territory), so unless it was 'Red' there'll be no babies on the horizon.. Not to mention Lottie's lack of black toes.. she's a funny one! :)

That looks so awesome so far! I can't wait to see it all set up with the axies in :D I want a new tank so bad now ;-; To bad I've only had my current one for a couple of months, no way would my dad deal with me setting up ANOTHER new tank xD

Got my sand and hood this afternoon. The sand is rinsed, in the tank and settling. Yay. The hood is yet to be varnished and I'm also going to need to do some extra DIY on it.. My tank is 2cm shorter than the standard so I will need to nail in some extra supports for it to sit on the tank. Any ideas? I was thinking just some wood cut-offs from the hardware store.

Will post pics tomorrow night, when hopefully all will be done! :)
 
FINISHED (Well very nearly almost)

Only things left now are to install the light, and new AXIES!!! WOOOOO :)

Oh whoops forgot to add those to the list..

HIDES:
I've got some home-made slate cubbies done but they've still got a few days of drying to do before they're ready. You can see one of them in the second pic, down the bottom of the stand.

I don't want to put too many hides though.. 1 each of course but my guys prefer to be all together in the same one lol, so the others don't get all that much use..

PLANTS:
Am acquiring some next week from 'blackdog'.. we are going to do a guppy-plants trade :)

AXIES:
There's 3 axies in there now.. they're all over to the left chilling.

:)
 
NEARLY finished product. Getting new plants on wed but due to annoying ammonia again, I had to put these in, in the meantime.. :)

AWESOME!

Thanks guys! yeah the cats are cuties.. grey one is 'Cricket' and is the bf's. Black & White is 'Merlin'.. he's my baby! :)
