I have a background on my tank too, gives it depth. I have sand and large pebbles on my tank floor though, mine love to climb up and over and through the real plants. I know axys can be a little destructive with plants so mine are held to a large pebble with a rubber band. Did Freckles ever live with pebbles in his tank, he looks like he is either wondering what the hell he's looking at or wondering how he can get in there.

LOL freckles came from a tank that was full of gravel, so shes probably trying to figure out how they hell she can get over there and play on that gravel XP Still to this day shes trying! I came home from about 3 days of being somewhere else and shes STILL trying to figure out how, hehehe.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
