I am too happy right now. They are here, happy, exploring, curious and hiding.

Two females (i think hey are, they don't have a protruding cloaca), named Hampalill (Hampey) and Bombadill (Bombey).

Two quite different personalities from my 5 hour observation.

Hampalill is curious and exploring. She climbed some plants, found some pots and located a hole in a piece of wood she could stick her head in. She also got a notched back and some freckles on her head.
Bombadill is the hidey and non-active one. She spent 2 hours sitting in the exact same place, right near the filter, just hiding. I haven't got a good photo of her yet due to her being, well... away.
They both ate a pellet each so they're not that hungry anymore.

Edit: Forgot to add their size. They are small-ish, around 10 - 15cm, i haven't got around to measure them yet.

Oh and about the pictures, i don't have any gravel in my tank, that's the petshops tanks who had them.

But damn, they're cute!

I had zero name suggestions for them, so i asked my brother's girlfriend, who is also the one who turned my attention from fish to axolotls, if she could come up with some. Instantly she suggested Hampalill and several others but they didn't really fit an axolotl.

But when i got home with them she sent me a text suggesting Bombadill, i thought it was perfect since Tom Bombadill, from Tolkiens books, is one of the awesomest characters of them.

Though i do not know where she got them from.

Ah ha! I thought it was from Tolkiens books! Great name for an axi :D Can he sing Tom's songs? :p

Hahaha, i'd wish :)

Though i am a bit worried about Hampey. She's a bit stressed, her gills are forward. Might be from the move, but Bombey have her gills backwards and is looking okay. I did notice a slight curve on her tail but i think it's gone now.
But back to topic, Hampey has been floating around. Not everywhere, only around my large plant to the left in my tank. She's been sitting in it, squished against the glass, occasionally swimming down. I am a bit worried because the tank they had in the petshop had a few pieces of some small 5-8mm mm gravel so i hope she's not constipated or something. Might be the levels in the water, i'm gonna do a small water change when i get home and see if she changes her behavior.

But maybe she just likes plants, she climbed the one behind my piece of wood, she sometimes lies in my little forest in the middle.

We'll see.
Also i got the sizes totally wrong, the petshop said they'd be around a year old and 10-12cm, measured them yesterday. Both are around 17 so they are a lot larger than i suspected.

Some axi's just like floating or hiding or hanging around a certain item, I think it's just a personality thing :D Don't forget to keep an eye on the temperature of the tank too, that can cause stress sometimes, but otherwise, more pics please!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
