So I got Pinky the leucistic male axolotl from a University animal testing lab about two or three years ago when he was about three years old. He had never been tested on I hasten to add. When I got him he had no limbs, no gills and half a tail. He was however, the friendliest, hungriest, most energetic axolotl I have ever met. His limbs returned and he now has four deformed limbs, a full tail and no gills..... He is still the most charismatic axie I've ever owned. I don't think there's any hope of him growing his gills back but he seems to manage just fine without them. The deformed limbs seem to pose some problems with swimming and he wobbles from side to side and occasionally turns onto his side, but he's always first to the food and follows my progress from within the tank with an eagle eye; ready to snap at anything that comes near him! He's never been ill and shows no signs of slowing down. He has two tankmates, but he's still my favourite (shhh, don't tell them!)
Check out some pictures of my little trooper; look at the first pic, he's on the left of the shot with his mouth open blowing bubbles!
