Hi everyone I LOVE this site, I don't think I'd have been brave enough to look after axolotls without it so thank you millions! xx
Here is my setup with little Alice & Milo. They are still only 7 month old and seem happy in the tank they have until I can treat them in August to a 4 ft mansion :p
I have frogbit floating, some hides, a filter pump, airstone (which Milo adores!), the huge palm tree to stop the flow from the pump and a half rock and half flat surface.
Obviously the light is on just for the pictures as I only have a camera on my phone :( They are in the corner of my living room away from light and heat, in one of the pictures you can see the window but its only the reflection.
I think Alice may be a boy and Milo a girl now they are getting older lol but each have their own personality. Alice is adventurous and loves to climb but Milo is more of a lazy one lol
Alice has 7 gills and is unfortunately missing a few "toes" where as poor Milo is missing a whole "foot" :( They weren't in great condition when I purchased them from the pet shop & you cant really see on the pictures but they have grown some lovely fluffy gills :)
They are eating juicy earthworms every other day and some times shrimp or daphnia for a treat.
Get ready for some snap happy proud mam pictures! (I have 12 in total so I'll have to post some seperate)

Aw they are precious. I love the third picture in the first post, very cute!

Thanks Jenste, that is actually my fave too! I have it as my screen saver, they were like mammys home, food food quick quick hehe xx

Awww they are sooo cute!! Love the tank set up!! It looks like a fun tank!! the bridge is adorable!!

Congrats they look very happy already! ;)

Aww axolotl lvr they love that bridge, that and the bubbles are where they spend most of their lazy day :p
I had a bit nosey at your pix and you've got your hands full! Big boy has stunning characteristics :)

I like their mezzanine sleeping platforms! Where did you get those?

Aww thank you yes he does.. a little speckles on his face haha.. I do indeed have my hands full.. those are not all my pics either lol.. I love axies and I would love to own every color. Now I have a collection going, Im just getting a larger tank set up and decided who will go with who ;) I also have baby hatchlings that are teeny tiny right now.. They are super fun!! ;)

Hiya Anna, thank you, they are just a soap dish from Wilkinson! they were £1 each and I just soaked them in boiling water a few times to make sure they were "clean" they came with the suckers and all of the edges are super smooth, bargain! Ive just seen your pictures, I must say how amazing are Taco's gills, they look like they have gold glitter in them hehe :)

Axolotl lvr I have fell so in love with my axolotls if I had the space and money Id have a house full!

p.s I had to google the word mezzanine

Well I was going to wait until later in the year to purchase my new tank but this monster just came up on Ebay and before I knew it... Id bought it
I convinced myself if I bought it now Id have longer to cycle it :proud:

It will take some time to decorate and get ready but I'm so excited, nobody mentioned how addictive this could be :p

Wow you'll have fun with that tank! It is seriously addictive isn't it? I only meant to keep 2 babies out of the 10 eggs we hatched as we only had a 3ft tank, but before I knew it I had fallen in love with Taco and found room for a 2ft tank. Now I can't stop thinking about copper and melanoid axolotls. Short of buying scuba gear and flooding my flat I think i may be out of space....!

hi ya. i'm about to get my 1st little axolotl. i was debating whether to get one or two but wasn't sure i could put two babies in the same tank? have u had any problems with them together?
any suggestions for a first timer?

Hiya karena
Im pretty much still a newbie compared to others on here but my Axolotls were just over 6 months old when I first got them, so as far as I've read that's just past the cannibalistic stage but I'm sure someone with more knowledge can let us know.
There is a lot of debate on whether they are social creatures but from reading peoples posts they seem to be happy either way!
My 2 lived happily in my 2 foot tank but knowing how big they would grow as soon as I spotted a bargain on eBay I snapped it up.
A few common pitfalls seem to be people not cycling their tanks before hand, adding gravel or any smaller stones axies can swallow and adding fish (some people do as feeder fish but more in depth info on that is floating around the threads)
But this site is great and everyone is so helpful and most answers can be found easily using the search.
Take lots of pictures to show us when you get your little dude :D

aah thanks for the reply. i should hopefully b getting my lil one 2moro. need to just get a hiding place 2moro and ill b all set. my tank has been on for over 24 hours now. any advice on what do literally do when i first put him or her in? did you get your two from the same group? I was debating getting another one too. but will have to get a bigger tank in the next couple of months i think. am i risking too much by getting two? x

Oh I think you might need to post an actual question for more info, like I say I'm still new myself but I really don't think 24 hours is enough to cycle the tank but id be happy to stand corrected :D

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
