How old and big are they? They look too young to tell their sexes but so far neither of them looks like a male.

Not sure on their ages I did ask the lady in the pet shop but she was completely clueless about them lol the albino is about 5 inches and the wild type is a bit bigger maybe 6

Axolotls can reach sexual maturity between maybe 6 months to over a year and after that it's possible to tell males and females apart. But once they're over 8 inches you might start to see some differences. Although sometimes what you thought for sure would be a female suddenly turns out to be a male pretty much over night.

Just wanted to mention that I thought I had read somewhere that glazed pottery was potentially dangerous to have in aquariums. I guess because it might leach hazardous chemicals into the water. So you may want to check that out and see what info you find.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
