So I stumbled across this little guy in the fall ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360730148.575774.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1360730183.554436.jpg i think its a rough skinned newt... he rekindled a lifelong love of herps and inspired a lot of Internet research that lead to me building a dart frog vivarium ( that is currently growing in and awaiting inhabitants). Anyway I found this guy ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360734144.866527.jpgin my basement about a week ago and decided to try to make him a home out of a 29 gallon tank I had. Right now I've got him set up in a sweater box with a hide and a little water tubImageUploadedByTapatalk1360734320.291837.jpg he loves night crawlers and seems right at home.
I am super excited about the wide world of caudata's, and also any advice about my new friend would be very welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I'm afraid I can't be of much help in regards to your little friend, but I'm sure there are plenty of people that can help out!

Definitely a roughskinned newt. They make great pets. Mine is 11 years young! She's super-spunky.

She's the only roughskinned newt I've ever had that absolutely refused to go aquatic. She gets a wide, shallow bowl so she can swim laps, but never go in over her head.

Wow 11 years that's rad. It's always fun to get home and read that the little creature you had crawling all over you is toxic...
