That is definitely Taricha torosa.

Attached are pictures of my male Taricha torosa (light colored) and my male Taricha granulosa (dark colored) together. Colors can vary between individuals but body shape more defining. In addition too bulgier eyes, torosas have shorter tails, longer legs and are less aquatic than granulosas.

Look like Torosa, 1 looks female, 2 probable male, 3 male.

They look quite well fed :)

Torosa go terrestrial during the dry summer months in California, not sure what they weather is like in northern Spain. If the water temp gets at or above 20C for an extended period of time I think you would run into problems. You can try it, just provide an island for them to haul out on. If they stay on the island or look stressed in the water move them to a terrestrial set up.

as posted repeatedly: you can not distinguish between torosa and granulosa by looking at them.
Only by:
- getting eggs (single versus cluster)
- knowing the place of origin
- provoke defensive posture

All else is just incorrect.

Uwe

I have to disagree Uwe, I am from an area that has all three Taricha species and they are fairly easy to distinguish. I imagine it is more difficult to definitively id Taricha sp. when all individuals are coming from the pet trade without locality info or anything other than a common name.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
