My New Axolotls

These guys came in Wednesday! They are absolutely awesome! They're eating worms like crazy! The golden albino is about 4.5 inches and the wild type is a little over 3 inches. These are my first axolotls and I love the little guys! I was told people here love to see pictures so here they are. I don't know what's up with the wild types gills though. He's been like that since I got him. The water parameters are fine and the temperature is 66 degrees and there's no fast current. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the golden one and theyre in the same tank so maybe that's just the way he is. Anyways here they are! Hope you like em!:)

Edit: I forgot to add that I haven't named them yet so I'm open to any suggestions.

They are cuties :) but your wild type kind of looks like a melanoid ;)
 
Im sure someone else could tell me if i am right or not but seriously in the pictures it looks like you have a melanoid and not a wild type :) i dont see the gold ring in his eyes and no shiney pigment on his gills/body.
I may be wrong though but thats just what i see from the two pictures :)
 
You know, I think you're right. I thought melanoids were only solid black, but I did some research just now and I found out about the shiny ring around the eye and this guy definetly has solid black eyes. Looks like I have a melanoid instead! Thanks for catching that and sharing a little bit of axolotl knowledge with me! :)
 
Hehe your welcome! I have 5week old babies that im trying to color and it is really hard! And sometimes they keep changing colors as they age. Its such an adorable little thing though! Regardless the color!

Though i have seen reallydark wild types before i was like hmmm!

This is my wildtype :)

That is one beautiful wildtype! You definitely can see the eye ring and shiny pigments in him!
 
I love the vibrant wild types like yours <3

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
