After weeks of frantic dancing about and tail fanning one of my boys has convinced his favorite female to follow him and pick up a spermatophore, It took a couple of tries with her getting them stuck to her feet and tail to begin with but hopefully she will start laying eggs soon!
Sorry about the poor pictures (i forgot to turn the flash off), I just thought i'd share :)

Congratulations! That's great! Keep us updated on the females getting gravid or laying. Finger crossed! :D
 
She's extremely gravid, so much so that she looks uncomfortable! I'm pretty sure she will be glad to start laying eggs and get back to being a normal shape!
I'm not sure if i'll raise any babies this time as i'm still hand feeding last years juveniles :)

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
