I guessed from his size that he is around 7 months old. I know that this is too young to determine gender, but I also know that aging by size isn't always accurate, and so thought that maybe if I'm wrong about the age then he might be old enough to sex. I think his growth was most likely put on hold at the aquatics centre where I got him because there were 5 in about a 15 gallon tank with no plants or hides and the bright tank lights were on all day for customers to see. Therefore he could really be anything from 6 - 12 months, I am not sure. I tried asking the centre but they couldn't even remember what an Axolotl was until I reminded them. >_>
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
