Hello Caudata.org members! I am new to this forum and just wanted to say howdy from Texas! I am a biology graduate and am working on a microbiology degree and a biotechnology degree. I am also a mother of a five year old boy and 1 year old girl, 4 dogs, 12 chickens, 4 ducks, a nano saltwater invertebrate aquarium and a 16 gallon axolotl aquarium. We have a juvenile GFP wild type axolotl named Toothless, and are getting a leucistic axolotl next week, and will be naming it Falkor.

These are not our first amphibians by any means, but we are new to axolotls. Though the tank is tall, Toothless seems to be doing wonderfully; growing and eating like a little piggie!. We keep the tank at about 68-69F degrees with the help of floating ice packs (ambient temp is 72-73F). The temperature is actually pretty stable, never getting above 70 degrees this way, and never dropping below 68F. We are getting a chiller in a couple weeks so we don't have to use ice packs any more. The aquarium contains lots of beautiful central Texas fossils we have found, and all rocks are bigger than Toothless' head. The only tank mates are ghost shrimp and black worms.

We also have some feeder cultures including feeder shrimp (cherry shrimp culls), marbled crays, black worms, earth worms, and a pond full of scuds (amphipods), mosquito fish, and daphnia. Also considering starting some white worms and ramshorn snails. We also have a pretty (although infested with red bubble algae-which is pretty anyway) 6 gallon saltwater invertebrate tank with mushroom, clove, green star, palythoa and zoanthid corals, emerald crab (Newton), peppermint shrimp (Delia) full of eggs, a couple blueleg hermits, and various snails.

One day soon we will make a terrarium for some red efts as well. And maybe even one day we'll get some marbled newts. Anyway, enough about me! Here's a picture of Toothless and the tanks we have.

Hello and welcome. Sounds like quite a menagerie you have there!
