Three months ago i ran across the most intriguing creature i had ever seen, a large 12 inch all black amphibian walking across the bottom of a tank in my local pet store. When I asked what on earth it was, I was lead into a back room full of shelves that had literally hundreds of small containers lined wall to wall. Inside of each container was one very small, half-inch, translucent axolotl. I immediately fell in love, and being a fish enthusiast for the last 10 years I felt comfortable bringing three of these small creatures home.

Over the last three months these small guys have flourished and grown to reach approximately 4.5 inches each, and I even acquired a male white albino to accompany them. I am so happy that I have discovered this amazing animal and they bring so much joy into my life, I can't wait to see how they continue to grow over the years, develop more complex and unique personalities, and just do what they do best, look adorable!

Very pretty wild? looks , kinda like tiger salamander baby with more yellow and leopard like skin.

Beautiful animals they are very healthy looking.

Thank you, I try to keep them happy and give them a pretty varied diet with new things to interact with in their tanks pretty often. I'm a first time axolotl owner and I'm glad to hear that I'm doing well.

Their mother was a melanoid albino and the father was a normal wild type. the pet store I got them from has been breeding the pair for about a year now and all of the offspring are coming out with gold coloration, no one knows why exactly. One of mine, Logan, is turning white with black spots, its sister Charles has developed leopard like patterns, and the third one looks like a wild type from the top with golden hues, however its stomach is pure white with little freckles of color.

The picture is of my axolotl Logan.

Amazing!! , at first sight I thought it could be copper but now I have no idea I love it!!!! :D Nothing get me more exciting to see new wild color . Cause I know most people don't seem to care much about wild color, but for me I just can't take my eyes of it ! Each angle are different I can look at them all day, I have GFP wild that was the product of many mix of albino and leucistic over and over . And I swear each time another different color lights hit they always look different than the last. Yours so beautiful I'm so jealous !!!

Thank you so much! I am completely in love with their coloration as well, and it is astounding how different their colors are coming in considering they are all related. Each month they change so much and they have actually been getting lighter in color instead of darker like a typical wild type.

I will definitely keep posting photos and showing them off. I am glad that someone else is in love with these guys as much as I am

Just for fun here are a few more photos

I was finally able to capture a picture of my axolotl Henry's stomach. She has a mostly white stomach like her siblings however over the last month she's begun developing the most adorable little spots.

And yes, Henry is a female. I simply couldn't change her name after months of calling her Henry

My wild babies right now is mostly green from GFP Their belly is much lighter also . I try to keep them in light substrate so they will grow lighter cause I heard it's their nature to adjust to surrounding over times. Yours are so beautiful I wish I could see them in person up close. Cause I bet pictures can't do the justice since there're so much depth in their colors

Thank you, and yes their colors are just stunning in person. I've been considering breeding them with a golden albino in the next year once they are old enough and I hope that some of their offspring have similar colors and patterns.

Until then I will admire my beautiful babies and continue to be in awe.

I have lots of beautiful golden albino with lots of gold flakes , if you want some let me know I sell them on eBay ;) just let me know that is you. ( they het for golden Melanoid ) would be crazy beautiful babies .

Thank you! ill be sure to check that out, I'm looking for a male as all of mine seem to be female.

I got a pretty cool photo of my axolotl logan's gills today right after she downed two earth worms, thought it would be a cool photo to share since this is turning into the photo gallery for these little ones as they grow up

I can't stop looking at it  I'm curious of what's their genetic het for ( maybe copper?) . Since you have pet store near by might be best not to deal with shipping and just wait till they have golden. I'm not an expert on genetic match especially special wild colors like yours cause it does make sense that if you breed wild with gold you will get more wild, but will it make any different on colors? That I can't wait to see.

I haven't the slightest clue myself. Their father was a normal wild type but their mother was a melanoid albino. I'm not sure about the grandparents. The breeders at the store said that the batches of eggs came mostly wild but they always had a few albinos and a few melanoids.

Either way I'm sure that the offspring would be stunning.

I have a photo of the father, but their mother always hides inside of a log and I'm never able to see her when I visit the store :(

I don't know if that was the color of the lighting. Could he be the brown axolotl?

I've never own brown so I don't really know enough about it , all I know is that they just chocolate brown all over ( maybe some dark brown spots) some are melanoid brown some are not . They look like yummy brownie . :lick:

Well how fascinating  Either way he produced some stunning babies :p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
