Hello to everyone. My name is Jay living in anchorage Alaska and we've had axolotls for couple months now. Just decided to join the page because it helped us a lot in properly caring for them as beginners. Came home one night to eggs in the tank which now are about hatched and are awesome. Currently have 3 that are 6-10", 5 that are 4-5" and now these Little ones pretty excited for them.

Were you able to find axies up there or did you have to special order them?

Someone was rehoming so I took the 3 adults including their 40g tank. Ordered 2 leucistic which was replaced by 3 wild type due to stocking issue from backwater reptiles. Other 2 were from an owner of axies.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
