I've been raising axolotls for the past 3 weeks and a few days after hatching one of the developed a lump on the side of him. At first the breeder and I thought it was an air pocket and it would go down within the next few days but it has been weeks and no improvement. This lump hasn't disrupted any of its development and is a very good eater. I'm just concerned that it can be life threatening.

It might just be an abnormality. I would definitely separate it from the others until it becomes clear what it is.

It appeared a few days after it hatched.I have him with 4 other axolotls they are all the smallest and they don't seem to mind being in each other's presence, thank you for the response,I will keep an eye on him

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
