I'm Dave from Maryland. I've always had a keen fascination with herps and wildlife in general. I've lived in several states over the years including Michigan, West Virginia and North Dakota. In North Dakota I remember after a Spring rain how the Tiger Salamanders seemed to be everywhere (unfortunately in the roads too).

Currently I'm interested in obtaining a Fire Salamander or two but from what I've seen that might be difficult. If not I'll have to go with a plan B. I just started getting a terrarium put together using a 20 gallon long aquarium and eventually I hope to turn it into a vivarium.

The terrarium I'm working on now.....

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
