The newly acquired male is very skinny and in comparison to the female lying underneath him, he looks like a twig. Luckily he has started feeding already and will be putting some weight on soon.

I wouldn't worry about the male's weight, that's one huge female you're comparing him to! I always think if the hip bones aren't visibly sticking out then the animal is a healthy size, especially with Tylototriton because females are almost always much better built than males

Thanks. The male is a wild specimen so he's naturally slim I guess.

Here the Alpha Male is Large aprox 5.5" , the largest female is the same size. My wife keeps a Group of 7 shanjing's.

Heads up!
The male is obviously growing stronger and chubbier and accepts a whole range of food from crickets to fish to worms.
