Hello, my axi ,peaches is so sick , he looks like all his slime coat is gone and he is raw from head to tail. He was fine 4 days ago eating, swimming and interactive. He is 3 years old . He hasnt grown much since i got him, he is only about 7 inches long and has reached maturity. I had him in a 40 gallon for 2 years thinking he would grow into it but he just stopped growing so i transferred him to a 20 last year but was healthy and happy no issues till this. I have pics but do not know how to share them on this site. Any advise

Hey there! What are your water parameters? Temp? Any drastic changes to the axolotls care? What I do for pics is I use a free pic sharing site called imgur, (you have to sign up to the website, it’s all free however!) Just upload your pics to imgur and copy/paste the link in the reply box. Try to take the best pics you can with whatever you have! I hope peaches gets to feeling better!

Note: I have little experience with axolotls, however slime coat loss usually is due to high temps and/or bad water quality. Using a refrigerator would probably help, there is a great post on this forum about fridging axolotls. I’ll see if I can find a link to it!
 
Thank you for your response to this thread I realized there is a manage attatchments tab and add from my documents then my gallery to add pictures. Peaches is doing well after fridging him 2 water changes and 2 -3 tea baths daily did the trick.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
