Hi everyone! I am so excited to be a part of this community! Chip and Queso are the newest members of my family! They hatched on 11/1/2021. I have had them since they were 16 days old. They are currently on blackworms and are starting to grow like weeds!

Does anyone have an idea of what color they might be as adults? Mom is wild type and dad is leucistic. Chip is the lighter of the two. I’m wondering if they might be copper? And I think Queso (the darker one) is wild type. What do you all think?

For those wondering, Chip is stressed in this picture because they decided to jump when I was doing their water change. This is now the second time. I even had a bowl under them but they jumped WAY farther than expected. Since the picture was taken, Chip has eaten and their tail and gills are no longer curled.

Bonus picture from the day I brought them home and they were itty bitty :)

Aw your babies are so cute! I think your guys could be either a copper or a wild! It’s hard to tell when they are young:) But if this helps my axolotl used to look like your babies (but lighter) and I know now he is definitely a wild type. Here are some pictures of him when he was 3 months old and now, (2 years old). Hope this helped!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
