Hello!
I have 2 axolotl babies and eager to gain knowledge to give them the best life possible. I bought a turtle tank which has an aquarium filter Marina a131. Just checking this is ok to use? And if so do I need to change the water entirely / partially weekly? Should I turn the filter off at night or keep it running constantly? I am ordering plants safe for Axoltls and they already have some pond weed they came with. Any advice is great. I've ordered black worms too. Currently feeding them on tiny fish pellet/ grain. I haven't seen them eat anything though.
They swim around and explore a lot. Even come up to glass and respond to us on occasion.
Many thanks!

what is the size of the tank?
the marina a131 aka i25 is a filter designed for small tanks up to 25ltrs, way too small for an axolotl tank.
once a tank has been cycled weekly partial water changes should be done, this is done to remove nitrates that build up over the week, the amount of water replaced depends on size of tank and the amount of inhabitants.
filters run 24/7 apart when they are being cleaned or a water change is being performed.
the minimum size tank for a single axolotl is 20 gallon (a 10 gallon tank is the old recommendation but due to comfort and to allow for full growth and movement a 20 gallon is now the standard recommendation), for every additional axolotl 10 gallon needs to be added, your tank size needs to be 30 gallons and up.
baby axolotls are more movement orientated so need to be fed live food ie.. live bloodworm, live brine shrimp, etc..

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
