Hi everyone, I'm a new member here and this is my Powpow, i just have her 1 week ago, back then when she came to me she already have a nasty bite on her front left leg and took away 3 of her toes, i read that she may grow it back overtime, but it's been a week and I barely see anything happen, she rarely use that leg tho, just sometime when she landing on the bottom after getting air.

I live in tropical country, water temp about 28 cel, too high i know but after a week i think she's fine with it
May i ask is there any medicine or method to help her grow her toes back faster.

Thanks for reading my long post

Hi,

The photos don't show the bitten member.

Axolotls usually regenerate very well their toes without any medicine if they are well fed, but it takes several weeks.
If the bite is recent, (in this case, it could be about 1 week ago), it may be healing its wound.
Regeneration should take place after.

And yes, 28°C (if I've well understood) is too high a temperature for a long term keeping.
Within 1 week, you haven't had time to see the deleterious effects of this temperature.

My axie still eat well, 1 earth worm/ 2 days
When she first come home, her 2 toes and front part of leg wad bitten off, along with swollen leg and red dots as in pictures

But now the swollen and red dots are all gone, and her leg turn into round shape where toes was, is that a sign of healing ?

And im working on my diy chiller for her, maybe finish in next 2 days

Ps: i also remove all the gravels tho

28C translates to 82.4F. these are lethal temperatures for an axolotl. if you genuinely care at all for the animal you will immediately find a solution or rehome it. it will absolutely die in these temperatures, and it will be your fault.

it is normal for an injury to regress and become rounded, this is because the cells at the injury site are reset back into growing limbs/digits etc.. same as stem cells.

Better water quality will help little Powpow regrow her toes. 28 C is boiling hot for an axolotl. You may consider investing in a chiller for your tank to bring the temperature down. If the water is good quality, she should recover just fine. Definitely invest in a chiller ASAP!

Good! As soon as the temperature thing is resolved and barring all other water quality is good, I think little Powpow will start to see regrowth!
It finally grew back, i didnt pay much attention these couple days because year end business, but when i feeding him today i notice it grew backkkk , yayyyyy thanks guys

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
