She usually only does it when people are next to her so im pretty sure she's just being friendly but i want to nake sure it's not something to do with the water quality or oxygen or anything. She looks healthy and her gill colors tend to fluctuate anywhere between pale and red depending on how active she is or if she's eaten recently (does she look healthy?). If she's sticking her head out she'll sometimes leave it there for a few minutes and if you put your finger near her she'll try to bite it. Is all of this normal? I fed her a few hours ago but maybe she's still hungry?

She also likes to do nose boops where if you stick your finger towards the top of the water she'll boop her nose on your fingertip. Is this normal?

If it's air, then put an air-stone in. She might just be thinking you're giving her food. Animals become very food oriented.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
