Hello, my golden albino has developed these dark spots around his mouth and a little dark red patch on his neck. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? He is over 10 years old. Forgive his club foot the larger leucistic mistook it for a worm during feeding.
Thank you!

the dark patches on the mouth look like hard skin (the same type that is confused as finger nails on the tips of axolotl digits) don't try to remove as it will damage his mouth.
the red patch could anything from a sore to an abscess to an age spot, keep an eye on it to see if there is any localised swelling or growth.
at the moment any treatment may be more harmful then the symptoms due to age.

I think as they age they get weird things going on. My 14 year old has dark bits near his cloaca but they don't seem to cause him a problem. He's had it for years

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
