Development B.orientalis

Hi All- I am a first time FBT owner and have tadpoles who have sprouted both sets of legs, but still have a long tail. At what point do I need to provide them with live food? They have been eating algae, algae wafers, fish flake and freeze dried shrimp. I had read that they don't eat much while they are re-absorbing their tail- as they get all the energy they need from their tail. Is that true? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

When the tail is almost gone you can put them in a terrestrial setup. They eat a lot less when they are morphing indeed. I gave them pinheads, springtails and fruit flies (especially the magots) at first. Good luck raising them!

Hi
I actually read somewhere that, unlike most other froglets/toadlets, FBToadlets will eat even before they have fully absorbed their tail.

Thanks, guys- I am going to try feeding some flightless fruit flies tonight to see if they go for it. :D

It's my personal observation that they eat a lot less while absorbing their tail, but I've seen them catch prey still. I don't know if this is unique for the species.
