Feeding schedule?

Hi this is probably a dump question but here i go anyway, where did (they) come up with how often to feed ? They say a few times a week,does anyone know where this info came from?

I say this because i have a snake that i feed once a week been doing it for over 5 years. My friend has a snake he has been the owner of for 4 over years. He says ever since he got it it only eats once every 6 months one time it went for 11 months without eating says he offers food once a week.

Both snakes are boa's both should be same age and they both seem healthy and about same size.

I ask because would some say you need to feed a snake once every six months?

Hi, Ive had my boa kenpachi for over 7 years since it was born, nowadays i feed it maybe once a month if not two months sometimes.
