Feeding time

When he was brought to me, he was emaciated and didn’t look healthy at all. The video taken above was after 3 months in my care. On checking his status today, he has buried himself in the substrate and he will most likely stay below for two or three days. The accompanying pic was taken shortly after his adoption

He looks way skinnier in the photo! :O
I'm glad you're able to care for him properly, that's pretty neat how he buries himself in the substrate. Why does he do it?

He is a member of the mole salamander family. These little fellows can grow to around 12”. Although I’ve heard that they can get to 14 or 15” but that wouldn’t be in the wild. In captivity, they’ve been known to live up to 25 years, from what I’ve been told. They usually hide in animal burrows or in loamy soil during the day and come out to feed at night. I just checked on both Socrates and Plato this afternoon and both are under the substrate. Below: Socrates at his best😊

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
