Yeah I think I have the same sand and nothing lasts in it sadly. :(
What I read that you could do, get a jar add some substrate and the plant and then add that under the sand. Not sure if it’ll work. Another thing is to tie the plants to rocks or glueing the roots to logs. Or just get floating plants to float such as Elodea, duckweed, Brazilian waterweed, or pennywort.

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
