The pictures are my one-year-old C.cyanurus. The color is darker than the same species commonly seen in the community, and this color doesn't change much. Is there a geographical difference from the same species distributed in the public? Or is it a hybridization with C.orientalis? The object in the picture is about 8cm, and I wonder if it can be bigger and gender(male or female?).

This species is highly variable. I’ve seen some that dark and have some that dark as well. That’s not to exclude the possibility that there has been some hybridization in some lines, it’s this one isn’t that out of the ordinary for what’s been called as Cyanurus. It also seems that the species Cyanurus may actually be multiple species or subspecies that haven’t been described yet.

Lovely newts you have the color variations are fascinating. My c.cyanurus have been cb breed up in northern states and have a redish orange belly with slate blue almost grayish black back but mine are still sub adults I'm sure they're colors will change a little as they mature

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
