Hello, My Axolotl of 4 years has a bloody protrusion coming from her rectum.

In the past couple days she hasn’t been eating, looked stressed and had sores on her feet. I presumed this was because she had been walking around on her bare bottom tank and this had been giving her some grief. Today I covered the tank bottom with large rocks (Way too big to swallow as seen in image) left and came home to this! Does anyone know what is happening!

All her water parameters are fine and her tank temp is 22c.

Please tell me if you have any info I’m really worried for her!

Thanks

water temperature is too warm, ideal temperature is 15°c-18°c, closer to 15°c the better.
although you water parameters are good what are they? ie.. ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, kh and gh if possible.
what food was she given before she stopped eating?
because it can be anything from undigested worm (if being given worms) to a ruptured prolapse you would be better to have her examined by a vet if possible, may also prescribe antibiotics which will help with the digit issue.

Thank you for your rapid response.
I have contacted a vet who believes it is a ruptured prolapse, and I have booked an appointment for tomorrow afternoon.

My Parameters are:

Ammonia: (NH3/NH4+) 0ppm

PH: 7.6

Nitrate: (NO2-) 0ppm

Nitrate: (NO3-) 0ppm

I will take into account the ideal temperature should be lower, i did not realise this.

She was last given meal worms.

Once again, thank you so much for your quick response; I really appreciate it.

I will be sure to keep you updated after the appointment.

did you crush the heads of the meal worms before giving them her? (live meal worms have been known to try to eat their way out), the exoskeleton could also cause possible blockage's if not fully digested which might explain the possible prolapse.

Unfortunately she died very suddenly this evening. I hope she didn’t suffer too much.

I really appreciated your help and responses. I’m sad to see her go but im glad to know her pain is over. I’ve also recently realised you were also the one to help me last time my axolotl had health issues and you were probably the only reason I managed to resolve them. I’ll be burying her in a nice spot tomorrow morning.

Thank you once again for all your assistance, quick and kind responses.

sorry for your loss

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
