Anyone got a recording of Ceratophrys calls?

Hi all,

trying to encourage my budgett frogs to breed and letting the male hear frog calls can make him call much better and therefore more likely to breed... i'm not holding my breath for Lepidobatrachus calls but does anyone have .wav or MP3 files of horned frogs/pacman frogs calling?

I'm going to make a CD to play next to him with frog calls and pacman frogs is about a sclose as i think I'll get???

How to ID the Budgett's frog is male or female, can I ID them in the physical way???

yes it is quite easy if they are sexually mature frogs; the male has a bluey/grey throat and is smaller than the female.

Do you have pictures of your frogs?

looks like a young male, the throat seems to be getting blueish...

do you have plans to aestivate your frog? I always do this and it seems that many frogs which arent aestivated lead short lives

How to plan a aestivate for my frog?? Becasue this is my first time to decide to do this plan. Do you mind to share some experience with me ?

not at all... Copied and pasted this from another forum that I wrote details on...

***After a few months of aquatic life just take them out and put them in
a small bowl of water. Put this small bowl into a plastic shoe box
size tub full of peat that is moist but not soaking.

If they are ready they will go into the soil within an hour or so and
dig down.

Put the box somewhere with a stable temp of about 16 - 20 deg C for up
to 8 months (my record) check every few weeks that the tub isn't
totally dry and enjoy having frogs in a box of peat... em, er...

after a few months, rain on them everyday with aged water and increase
temp.

Dig down and if they have their eyes open lift them out and put them
in 1" of water for a day at 20deg C they shed a LOAD of skin and then
start looking for food.

I have now got 4 adults and 2 of them have been aestivated three times.

All of the mishaps i have read about on forums with people having
mystery deaths seem to me to point to the fact that they wern't
aestivated... I do believe it is crucial. You can see after a few
months of aquatic life just how much they go off food

i have never had them awake as long as six months, 3 is more about
right or thereabouts... reckon 4 is enough

yes, i keep them in a cupboard with no light but i don't think that
matters too much as their eyes get sucked in and covered with a skin
underneath 12" of peat. Cupboards keep a stable temp tho.***

hope that helps? I strongly believe it is very necessary to do this for budgett frogs

Sadly not, and not for lack of trying!!!

I will give them three months to sleep and dream of amplexus and then try again in November probably...

...one of these days
