Save Salamanders From a Skin-eating Fungus ‏

Dear Michael,

Over the past several decades, the world has seen hundreds of species of frogs and toads go extinct from the spread of a deadly chytrid fungus.

Now, unleashed by the pet trade, another skin-eating fungus of the same class threatens to wipe out America's salamanders and newts.

If the new pathogen reaches the United States from Europe, it would have catastrophic consequences. With nearly 200 species, the United States is a global hotspot of salamander biodiversity -- from the seeps and springs of Oregon to the hills and caves of North Carolina.

Infected salamanders could enter the country through the extensive pet trade, which imports millions of wild-caught salamanders every year.

Act now to urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to block this threat and suspend all imports of salamanders not certified to be free of this deadly fungus.

just got this from the Center of Biological Diversity and thought that I should pass it on.
