Can anyone recommend a filter for a small tank that is compatible with newts (ie low flow rate) and daphnia. My current Marina filter has an appropriate low flow rate but just sucks all the daphnia straight into it.

I am based in the UK.

Thank you Gerard

Daphnia are just not meant for a filtered tank. They lack the ability to swim through any current. I would just unplug the filter when you feed Daphnia to your newts.

I agree. Daphnia can be damaged even by a sponge filter if it's running fast enough.

If you can, get a switched tap. This is a combination of a receptacle and a plug plus an on/off switch built in. You plug your device into the tap, like a filter, for example. Or a heater, for turning it off during water changes.

Then plug the tap into the power source. Now you can turn the device on or off without having to unplug it every time. Less effort, less wear and tear.
